Week 4

Here we are at week four.
Here aresome ICT tools:

RSS feeder: tool on google to find out what blogs have been updated that you are following. Google reader.

Flickr: creative commons. Allows you to see what is copyrited and how much. Allows you to not have to find copyrites etc.

Podomatic: allows you to create podcasts. Can be linked on blogger and found on i-tunes.

Place applications on a flashdrive to avoid having to be the administrator to put in applications.

Mobaphoto is an application that allows you to resize photos to upload them.

Get the students to each have a USB to allow their photos, files etc to be accessed. It also frees up space on school computers.

To ensure not wasting time. Make set times. Eg 20 mins for for finding web page etc.

Digital tool: Voki dog

A very clever tool that can be used to engage students, particuly young students who will believe the tool is actually talking to them.

Deenita M for Pm

Sent to me by my brother. A very clever idea showing how a little software know-how and a dash of cheekiness, can lead to a clever web idea

Week 2

Notes taken in week 2
(1) ITC should have an emphasis on higher order thinking: Otherwise it simply becomes a time waster.
(2) ITC is not best for everything: While ICT serves many purposes it is not the be all and end all of tools teachers can use.
(3) Ethics and safety important points:
*Don't put anything about kids on an unprotected blog, no names, all photos must have parents permission beforehand, all outside maps, images, videos etc need to be referenced.

(4) It is important to: model to the students the correct way to behave on-line.
(5) Be aware of Copyright, defamation and trademark laws.
(6) Do not allow students access to your facebook account, personal info. It breaches teacher-student ethics.
(7) Connected learning is connecting the students to professionals.
(8) Networks are important.
(9) Think outside the box when creating and using ICTs-Set up real-life situations eg: health & safety, water auditing.
(10) Be sure to Scaffold thinking.

Assignment
ICT frameworks: is is constructivist? The theory behind it. How are the tools used: Dol1,2,3 etc.
Think about source of info: can they create it themselves?
On-line brainstorms. Construction support, use blogs to show what thinking has been done and what has been done eg sites visited. Which framework will I use?

Sites
Website static-not collaborative
Wikis- can be changed
Blogs- can be commented on

Week 1

Where to start?? I have used forums (mainly for Sims 2) but have never blogged. I learnt so much just in the first few hours of this class. I am going to be spending more time on line now , it was getting boring and monotonous, but now I am looking forward to discovering new possibilities.
Previous thoughts....

These are some thought that I had about e-learning before I began the course:

Some reasons for the use of e-learning

    1. Dangers/safety concerns regarding the topic being studied eg volcanoes

    2. Location of the topic being studied eg outer space

    3. Distance eg Bundaberg to Canberra is too far for a day trip!

    4. Expense eg not all students may be able to afford going whale watching

    5. Practicality eg in the past (1600's)

    6. Sensitivity regarding the topic eg It is inappropriate for a class of students to discuss a homeless person in front of them.

    7. Logistics eg 3d space, complex mathematical formulas.

    8. Catering for learners needs eg hearing a persons story rather than reading it.
